If you’re pinning your power needs on the weather, then get set for mixed results. No country has ever powered itself on sunshine and breezes alone; no country ever will. Those that are attempting to do so, in earnest, have come unstuck – eg Australia’s wind and solar capital, South Australia, the only Australian state to ever suffer a statewide blackout. Oh, and SA’s the place that suffers the world’s highest retail power prices, right up there with those other RE behemoths, Denmark and Germany.
And Britain is well on its way to its very own power pricing and supply calamity.
