Falmouth’s fiscal history and forecast

In February 2007 Falmouth’s Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the notice of intent to proceed with the town’s Wind Energy System project.  Both turbines now stand idle (ordered by the court) awaiting their final fate.

Dispensing with Wind 1 is expected to cost Falmouth taxpayers somewhere between $4.1 million and $4.6 million. The cost to dismantle and remove the turbine from its current location is estimated at $500,000 to $700,000. Included in the community’s cost is the loan on Wind 1 which will require average payments of $330,000 annually for the next 11 years.

Wind 2 is expected to cost Falmouth taxpayers between $4 million and $5 million, with the same estimated dismantling costs as Wind 1. Included in the community’s cost is the pay back of $3.5 million in a Massachusetts Clean Water Trust loan.
